The day was beautiful with plenty of sunshine and an abundance of waterbirds!
At least 70 people signed in (more than half were birders, the rest were
families, walkers and bike riders stopping to see what it was all about...and
getting good looks at pelicans, grebes, etc. through the scopes).
From 4:45 PM until dark yesterday, 10/14, I had an adult western scrub jay
at my feeder. As common as they are in the foothills, this is only the
first I have seen in my yard in seven years here. I anxiously await evening
grosbeaks and Clark's nutcrackers.

Two Common loons were present early this afternoon, Oct 15, along the
northwestern edge of Marston Reservoir.
Nearby Harriman Lake, in Jefferson County, has a nice assortment of diving
ducks pushed south by the cold weather.

Today on the rip rap on the north west side of the lake were a flock of
about 20 or so Mountain Bluebirds, and just adjacent to the Bluebirds was a
flock of 10-15 American Pipits.

After 5pm this evening, off Sailboard Road at Pueblo Reservoir, I saw a Pacific
Loon and a Common Loon. I hadn't seen a Pacific Loon at Pueblo Reservoir since
last week, so perhaps a new bird, or maybe it has been hiding. This is my
first Common Loon of the fall at Pueblo Reservoir.

When packing up at the end of The Big Sit! I discovered a few items left
behind:
1) a 20oz water bottle with purple lid
2) spotting scope lens covers (eyepiece and objective)
If either of these is yours please contact me.

This afternoon around 5pm I was able to see Lewis's Woodpecker from Walt and
Linda Knudsen's backyard. I got great looks while the bird perched in a dead
tree in the flurries directly behind their property. This was the first time
I've seen a Lewis's Woodpecker in Jeffco. On the way out I
Many of you may have heard of the Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis).
This is a borer in the family Buprestidae (which go by the common names of
metallic or flatheaded wood borers). It is Asian and was introduced into North
America via the St. Lawrence Seaway near Detroit in 2002. Like
