Yesterday afternoon as we were getting ready to leave the house and I was
about to pull the car out of the garage, every bird at our feeders took off
in a panic and great flurry of wings. I then saw a large accipiter
approaching the yard from the north. I first thought a juv female
Lots of migrant/winter influx activity today at Grandview Cemetery in Fort
Collins (Larimer).
Highlights included:
Red Crossbill (at least 30 flying in small flocks this way and that, mostly in
spruce, sometimes in Douglas-fir, occasionally in American Elm (I think the
latter is either a site
I have been stopping by Grasmere Lake, the southern water body in
Washington Park, at Downing and Louisiana, almost daily for a couple of
weeks, counting American White Pelicans as their numbers grow - from 4 to
21, now plateauing around 19-21.
While there this morning I saw an adult
Very interesting, Joe, and thanks for the naturalist info. I've never seen
a swimming BCNH, but here is a Google image of one, looking very duck-like.

Chris Owens, Dick Schottler, Dean Shoup, Kathy Mihm-Dunning and I birded NE
Colorado today and we were able to re-find the Buff-breasted Sandpiper on
Weld County Road 105 north of the Morgan County line. Photos are at the
link below.
Also found at this location was a nice Savannah Sparrow
