[cobirds] Adult Sabine Gull at Smith Reservoir

Today in both the afternoon and evening, I observed and attempted to photograph an adult Sabine Gull at Smith reservoir, Costilla County. It has the striking wing pattern of white, black and gray, and dark head with dark bill tipped in yellow. I first saw it in flight and then saw it on water.

This morning was pretty windy and there were a few raindrops which kept numbers lower than usual. I didn't catch any new species, but I caught the second Red-naped Sapsucker of the season. The total was 37 new birds of 10 species. Here's the summary of newly banded birds for the day: Wilson's

The Marina, Sandspit, Handicap Fishermen Pier and Plum Creek are all closed now until next May due to construction at Chatfield State Park. There are barricades at the perimeter road to all these locations. And the perimeter road will be closed beginning October 1st from the park headquarters to

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is still here, and in the backyd, coming to the feeder around every 30 minutes. I moved the chairs closer to the feeder. Please stay in the chairs for viewing. The bird might go to the front feeder but at this point likes the back one the most. The hummer guards it
