After circling the Audubon Nature Center for 90 minutes, I saw the painted
bunting at 4:30 pm and learned two lessons:
1. The bird showed up only after I threatened aloud to leave in five minutes.
Pretty sure I could have saved a lot of time if I'd issued my threat earlier.
What a glorious bird.
I saw a three toed woodpecker at Pawnee campground at Brainard lake last
evening at about 8pm. He was at campsite 31. Post late because I didn’t have
WiFi until now.
I was disappointed that I didn’t see any Canada jays or Clark’s
nutcrackers. I did hear hermit thrushes, saw crossbills a

I too had the experience this year of late-arriving Say's Phoebes in a
Boulder County spot where I regularly see them.
They are a usual species seen at my Burrowing Owl monitoring site for
Boulder County Parks & Open Space (BCPOS), a prairie dog colony and former
pasture in SE Boulder Co
