Bird of the day was the White-throated Sparrow - 2 of them, 1 white-striped
and 1 tan, both young. Also had our second Creeper, which although not
rare made us all very happy. Had a total of 39 new birds:
Brown Creeper 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6
Hermit Thrush 5
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned
An addendum: while I was watching for fly out from the main night roost for
summer resident Turkey Vultures (and expecting some migrants to be using the
same vast night roost area), other CPW Raptor monitors were watching from a
more southeasterly location — and counted more than 300 TUVUs in
I saw hundreds of cormorants today! Lot's of pelicans & a few Mountain
Bluebirds on the fence posts near the south entrance.

I just had two calling Pinyon Jays fly through, and briefly land, in my
yard in Las Animas, Bent County CO. This is only the second time I've
had them in my yard, or in the lower Arkansas River Valley, and may
signal an irruption away from their normal habitat in the canyon country

one my bird app showed me, but the pictures didn’t look anything like mine, so
