The first day without a single warbler, not even a recapture. And our
first day with a real mixed flock of Juncos - we spent time consulting our
various sources of information to identify 13 Juncos, most of them young,
of different populations. The most interesting one on whose ID we agreed

Mississippi.

Last night I was in Wheat Ridge at a friend's warehouse where we play ping
pong, and at about 8:00 a bird flew in through the open big garage door.
It flew around for a bit and then landed on a wire and I id'd it as a
Saw-whet Owl. It settled down and despite our efforts to get it to leave

Another out-of-place sighting of Mountain Chickadees this morning.
I had a pair near the main entrance of Two Ponds NWR in Arvada. I haven’t
seen them here before and they aren’t listed on the Refuge checklist.

This morning I heard, then found, two mountain chickadees in Niwot around my
feeders. This is the earliest I have ever had them, as they usually aren’t here
until the dead of winter. It might be part of the phenomenon of montane birds
moving around because of fires. No juncos yet, though.

We had our first ever (in 50 years) Clark's Nutcracker pair come to our
cabin near Meeker Park at 8750 feet, from about Aug. 28 to mid-September.
