As our slow pace continues, we saw somewhat fewer warblers and a few more
sparrows. Enjoyed a nice young White-throated Sparrow, which we could
compare with a similar aged White-crowned. Also caught one of the noisy
Starlings that hang out high up in a dead tree near the banding station;
Yesterday we could not open our nets due to the wind and we were in for a
treat today! We have been getting lucky with capturing rarities here at
Chico and today we caught a Yellow-throated Vireo! We also caught our first
Black-headed Grosbeak of the season, which was personally a very exciting

The immature male Costa's Hummingbird in my yard since September 10th
appears to have left, after a nine-day visit. This morning at 7:08, it
took a really long drink from one of the feeders, flew up to a perch,
and returned to my other feeder for another long drink at 7:12. I
