Black Vulture
Despite deep snowpack around it and completely frozen surface water, the
nesting birds were present on and around the nest island at Walden Reservoir.
There were dozens of Cormorants, Pelicans and California Gulls and smaller
numbers of Ring-billed Gull, Great Blue Heron and Black-crowned
On my way back from Tucson last Wednesday, I saw several Swainson’s Hawks
just south of Albuquerque! Perhaps the strong NW winds that NM had earlier
in the week slowed them up.

fond two American Pipits working the rocks on the west side of the embankment.

I have observed similar scenes in Costa Rica, part of the fall annual
Southern Migration accompanied by large numbers of Swainson Hawks. I would
assume this is the spring Northern Migration return of large groups
choosing to make the trip together.
Did you observe any Swainson hawks in the
CoBirds:
Some canvasing the last week or so.
Today: American White Pelicans are in large numbers at Union Reservoir,
near Longmont. I counted 135, with more continuing to arrive from the
northeast ever few minutes. Pelicans are also at Plaster Reservoir and
Alex and Michael's
