All:
A long stroll down Dry Lake Trail and Bikeway in Westminster CO.
I picked up the trail from Westminster City Park and went to Standley Lake
dam, and back again. Here's what I saw:
Double Crested Cormorant: several fly overs, one in Dry Creek fishing
Snowy Egret - several
First day banding at Chico Basin Ranch for the season. Nets were operated
3.5 hours today after clearing net lanes and setting up nets. A good day
for a short day which totaled 44 new birds and eleven species. The
Highlight was the Prothonotary Warbler male. Chipping Sparrows were in
flocks
To borrow a phrase, The early birder gets the birds. They left about 3
minutes after I posted this. One would think I'd take my camera out of the
car and have it with me, but no. One of those memories we all have of
"Wow, that would have been a great photo" as they flew by. Sun behind me,
I took a run out to Last Chance a couple days ago. The small pond behind the
portapotties was but a sludgy, algae covered puddle with the least water I have
ever seen in the years I have visited. I didn’t see a single warbler in about
40 Minutes of watching the pond and walking around.
Looks like you had a great anniversary day Doug. Good luck on the next 50.

It is May 1, and the race to raise money for Pinyon Jay conservation has begun!
Non-competing individuals and teams may begin their effort on any day in May or
every day in May. It is up to you because there are no rules restricting how
you choose to watch birds and raise funds. If you plan to
Jeff, to me the bird in your photos looks like a Glossy but not yet in full
breeding condition. The eye is dark, facial skin blue-gray. Legs gray.
