This morning, Dan and I stopped by the west side of Tamarack SWA. We heard a
towhee song that was not typical for Spotted Towhee. The singer was found high
in the trees, and we identified him as an EASTERN TOWHEE by his song and wing
pattern, which showed an absence of scapular spotting, with

The female Long-tailed Duck continued today. She was swimming, feeding, and
preening close to the dam face on the Cherry Creek Dam trail, northwest of
the marina. Six American Pipits on the rocky dam face were also present.

Today, we had brief looks at the overwintering Red Fox Sparrow, skulking in
the shrubs behind the feeding platform at the Trading Post. Roads are well
cleared at the park.
Also, if the recent weather gave you a hankering for spring, 2 American
White Pelicans were at "Pelican Point" in Cherry
This morning, we found the pale headed juvenile Glaucous-winged gull
initially reported by Steve Mlodinow and David Ely (Jan 12), and most
recently reported by David Dowell (Feb 12). The bird was affiliating with
numerous other large gulls (and a bazillion Ring-bills) in the northeast

To get out of the brutal winds in Pueblo today, Dan and I ended our day at
Valco Ponds. We were rewarded at the far east end on the path (just below the

This afternoon, while waiting for an appearance by Cherry Creek's ongoing
Rusty Blackbird (unsuccessfully, unfortunately), Dan and I had a brief
sighting of a Brown Thrasher. The bird perched up for a short time before
diving back into the widely available cover in the area around the small
First seen near west end of Trilby road, perched on pole, just after 10AM. Flew
briefly to pole just west of intersection of Trilby and Taft Hill, then flew
north where it was seen stooping near the two buildings north of there. Not
being seen at this moment.

At least I think it's Adams. This afternoon, the immature male Vermilion
Flycatcher was found at the northwest end of the pond at the open space. It fed
a few times, then flew into the Cottonwood trees just north of the bison fence.

by Jason Bidgood, in roughly the same area that he originally found it.

The evanescent American Woodcock was in the creek a bit east of the ranger's
house this afternoon, so, obviously it's still around. Could be seen from the
county road that runs through the area.

A couple of things about Aurora Reservoir that I should have noted in my post,
just to let folks know. First, as I know you and your grandfather know,
everyone should remember that this is a fee area. Aurora takes this seriously.
Secondly, in my post today, I neglected to say that

the young Glaucous Gull first reported by Gene Rutherford continued, along
with Herring Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls, an adult Lesser Black-Backed Gull,
