The weather change brought in the next big wave of Wilson's Warblers - a fine mix of hatch year and adult, males and females. Most in the first 2 hours of the morning, under grey, cool, and windy (at the station, although not so much at the nets, which are much more sheltered) conditions. As we moved through the morning, we added some other species for a pretty nice mix overall. 70 new birds:
Hermit Thrush 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 7 Yellow Warbler 3 American Redstart 1 MacGillivray's Warbler 1 Wilson's Warbler 46 Green-tailed Towhee 1 (FOS) Chipping Sparrow 8 Clay-colored Sparrow 1 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 We are open 6 days each week, weather permitting, through October 16.We are closed every Monday in September, then October 4 and 12. We are opening nets at about 6:30 a.m. and we start closing between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. We will open later and/or close earlier if it is very hot, very cold, wet, windy, etc. There are school groups most weekday mornings, usually arriving around 9:30. Best times to visit, if you like lots of birds and fewer humans, are early mornings during the week and Sundays.
