Colder, grayer and windier than expected, and relatively few birds out and about. Treat of the day was a gorgeous Tree Swallow - first ever at the station. Here's the breakdown of the 20 new and 1 return caught today:
Dusky Flycatcher 1 Tree Swallow 1 Black-capped Chickadee 1 House Wren 4 Gray Catbird 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 2 Yellow Warbler 1 new, 1 banded last year Common Yellowthroat 1 Green-tailed Towhee 1 Lincoln's Sparrow 2 White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 3 Red-winged Blackbird 1 American Goldfinch 1 Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14 (that is this Friday and Saturday) and 30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy.
