We got in about 4 hours this morning before the wind picked up (and we were
just back in our cars when the rain started). A pretty glorious 4 hours
for us and the perhaps 40 visitors that came by for some or all of the
morning - counting new, repeats and returns, we processed 42 birds of 20
species, 6 of which were new for the season. Plus 1 of our really senior
Yellow Warblers again returned - #2410-71588, banded 5/23/08 as a young
bird, so now 9 years old.

Here's the breakdown of the new and returns:

Downy Woodpecker 1
Warbling Vireo 1 (FOS)
House Wren 5
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher 2
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Virginia's Warbler 5 (Probably a record for number of VIWAs caught in 1 day
here)
Yellow Warbler 3, all returns, the 1 mentioned above from 2008 and 2 from
2015
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 3
MacGillivray's Warbler 1 (FOS)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1 (FOS)
Western Tanager 1 (FOS)
Green-tailed Towhee 2 (FOS)
Chipping Sparrow 1
Clay-colored Sparrow 1 (FOS)
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Mountain 4 new, 1 banded last year
Brown-headed Cowbird 1

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14, and
30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are
opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by
7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to
close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very
windy.
