We had another day of good variety for the many families visiting today for
Audubon's annual Mother's Day brunch with the birds. Not quite as many
species as yesterday, but between new, repeats and returns came up with 15
species. Especially exciting for us was catching Swallows - Violet-greens
and Rough-wingeds. We've been salivating over them for several days, as
they hunted for food, ever closer to net level.

Here's the breakdown of the 27 new and 6 returns:

Dusky Flycatcher 1 (FOS)
Least Flycatcher 1 (FOS)
Violet-green Swallow 2 (FOS)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2 (FOS)
House Wren 5
Gray Catbird 2 (FOS)
Virginia Warbler 6 (We thought it was amazing to catch 5 of these
yesterday......)
Yellow Warbler 3 new, 3 returns (1 banded in each of the years 2012, 2013,
and 2015)
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 1
Common Yellowthroat 1 return (banded 2013)
Spotted Towhee 1 new, 1 return (banded 2015)
Lincoln's Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 1
Red-winged Blackbird 1 return (banded last year as a young bird, now a
beautiful adult male)

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14, and
30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are
opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by
7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to
close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very
windy.
