A steady stream of folks were coming by to see the Common Gallinule at
Cross Creek Regional Park in Fountain, El Paso County on Wednesday morning.
I left at about 10 and it was moving around the northwest corner of the
pond. In addition to the bright red markings on its bill it has very green
It seems like some birders don't post much about rare birds in Colorado on
cobirds, as much as they used to. Hopefully Colorado Bird Records
Committee Review species at least get posted more often. Tanja Britton

COBirders,
The Common Gallinule is still present in the same marsh as previously reported
in Wellington SWA, Larimer.
Today I found in the middle section of the more north marsh, more towards the
middle of the lake. Eventually came out into the open and walked around
feeding.

Sheila Webber and I saw this fabulous fowl Tuesday/today ~ 3.45pm amidst
intermittent snowbanding. We were at the small pond for about 45 minutes
and it did not reveal itself. We moved on to nearby Morris Reservoir for
about 25 minutes and when we returned it was out in the open and very
All,

I could see anything through the snowflakes. To my surprise I found a Common
Gallinule working the edge of some cattails on the pond north of County Road 60
in the Schware Unit of Wellington State Wildlife
I need to clarify a bit of confusion about when we saw the gallinule in Fort
Collins :
saw it on the 19, not the 20th.
I posted to cobirds on the 20th that I had seen it “yesterday”.
On the 20th we were home celebrating a birthday :)
Good birding,

I saw the Common Gallinule yesterday at 7:18 am at the Running Deer Marsh.
I was looking at a Virginia Rail preening on the small cattail island in the
open water in the south east part of the marsh when it appeared in my field of
view. It walked near the water but in the cattails. It went from

The gallinule has been pretty confiding over the last 20 minutes or so,
spending a bunch of time in the “open” preening.

Hi folks,
It took a while, but the Common Gallinule did make an appearance this
morning at the usual spot at Running Deer Natural Area (see previous
messages for directions, etc.)
I was beginning to feel a bit cursed when, after waiting over 3 hours,
everyone in the group I was around including

I was there 6-10am, one of the first two to arrive and last to leave. About

I was there last night from 5:30-7:30pm & did not see it. I was also there from
5:45am until 8:30am this morning. The bird had not been seen when I left. Don’t
know what happened after that...

The gallinule reappeared later this morning as well, but that's not why I'm
writing. Here are some tips for chasers:
1) Bring sunscreen and a hat, and consider bug spray. There is no shade
whatsoever. There are mosquitoes and biting flies but they aren't bad at
all.
2) A step stool or short

I have been asked to provide more details for the location of this bird,
especially for those birders outside of Fort Collins. Running Deer Natural

Today at around 2:25, I watched the Common Gallinule at Running Deer
Natural Area for about a minute. It was initially sitting at the edge of a
small patch of open water towards the south end of the front marsh at
Running Deer. To be more detailed, the patch of water is approximately 40
yards
Just spotted the Gallinule sneaking through the cattails at Running Deer NA. It
was in the same general area Rob described yesterday, the south end of the
main, front marsh.

The bird was foraging in an opening among the reeds. There is a empty
