Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 17:00:00
Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter: Carol Cwiklinski

Observers: Ajit Antony, Amy Walsh, Janet Peters, Kathy Moses

Visitors:
Thirty visitors visited the top today, bird watchers, hikers and families
out for the day. We had an excellent crew of observers; Janet Peters, Amy
Walsh, Kathie Moses, Ajit Antony, Jim and Barbara Banks from the early days
of Dino, Shelly Conger and Karen, Charlie and Mary Saunders and Mike
Britten. Mike was especially helpful spotting birds, finding an impossibly
high ferruginous hawk just east of the ridge. Everybody was helpful and
pleasant to be around. We had a good day.

Weather:
Today started out cool and windy, gusting from the west. Later temperatures
warmed and the wind was light but with occasional gusting for the rest of
the day until 1600, when the wind calmed and a layer of cloud moved into
the area. Most of the count period we had nice cloud cover, perfect hawk
watching clouds.

Raptor Observations:
Raptors were migrating today. Many we located along the western ridge, and
were a challenge to identify. We had several close birds over the ridge
most notably an adult light ferruginous hawk, also a rufous red-tailed hawk
and several American kestrel. Late in the day we located birds high on the
west but about mid-valley, so we were able to get decent looks. Birds flew
beyond our count day, so we stayed an extra 30 minutes.

Non-raptor Observations:
Forty one elk were located on Cabrini Mountain. We saw many of the usual
passerines with no new species seen.

Predictions:
We expect another warm day tomorrow before the storm on Thursday.
