Stephany McNew and I went looking for some birds in eastern Pueblo County and
in Otero County this morning.
Near Boone, Pueblo County, we saw a Mountain Plover and Vesper Sparrow.
At Lake Holbrook, Otero County, we saw the adult Little Blue Heron, plus
shorebirds: Snowy Plovers, Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, American Avocet,
Black-necked Stilt, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, Baird's and Least
Sandpipers, Long-billed Dowitcher, and Wilson's Phalarope.  Also on the
Reservoir, a Forster's Tern, Bonaparte's Gulls, Clark's and Western Grebes.  We
saw a Northern Rough-winged Swallow that caused an e-bird flag.  Also, several
Burrowing Owls nearby.
Lake Cheraw, Otero County was very high with water still.  Some ducks, nothing
really noteworthy.
We drove north of Cheraw, Otero County, and saw several Wilson's Snipe, and a
Chipping Sparrow.
It was a fun morning of birding on the plains.
