Hey COBirders,

PERFECT migrant banding conditions today at Clear Spring Ranch, - cool, low
ceiling, slight S breeze, and the diversity and numbers today reflected that. I
caught birds from 7:00-12:00.

Best migrants today were the array of Empid flycatchers:
Least Flycatcher,
2 Dusky Flycatchers
Hammond’s Flycatcher
(photos available, especially faces, upon request).

Also banded:
2 Warbling Vireos
4 Yellow Warblers (one f banded 2014)
Com Yellowthroat
2 Audubon’s Yellow-rumped Warblers
2 Yellow-breasted Chat
2 Gray Catbirds (one is a “foreign recap” source TBA)
Orchard Oriole m (my first at CSR)
2 Lincoln’s Sparrows
Song Sparrow (banded 2014)
and more locals.

Some of you may remember reports an “epic” day at Chico Basin Ranch, May 15,
2008, in conditions much like today, only wetter and it never did lighten up.
That day Brian Gibbons and I (RMBO) caught 240 birds, 140 of them Swainson’s
Thrush, and 100 assorted other great birds, like 7 Blackpoll Warblers, Red-eyed
Vireos, and many others. We caught birds from 7:00 to 5:00, and could have
kept going for more, as the conveyer belt never did stop! I’ve been waiting
for another day like that for 8 years!

Enjoy Migration!
