Yesterday I drove around some of the lower Arkansas Valley towns where I
was impressed with good numbers of Mississippi Kites including about 20 in
La Junta plus more in other towns in the area. I got some very close-up
photos of Mississippi Kites using long telephoto lens capability plus even
a little cropping so I could get the photos without disturbing the birds
and making their location obvious (I have been told by locals that they are
harassed-rocks thrown at them by children and even some so-called adults).
So I stayed in my car and did contortion positions to get the photos of the
birds in trees above the street. I have uploaded 2 so far onto my Birds
and Nature blog <http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/> and will post more
later tonight.

Drought conditions are beyond sad in much of the lower Arkansas Valley.
There are some locations that have received rain in recent weeks and even
some areas that are green but it is spotty at best. I will post about some
of the areas I birded later tonight.
