Hi CoBirders
I saw two Horned Grebe on Heron Pond at Lowell Ponds SWA (Adams Co.) at
about 5:30 pm today. The yellow "horns" on black head were clearly visible
with binos, even raised. Neck and breast of both birds were light, so in a
transitional plumage. The birds swam together. one raised itself slightly
out of the water, but I won't try to say that both sexes were present.
Heron Pond is the largest and easternmost pond at Lowell Ponds. The Horned
Grebes were toward the western end of the lake, near the fishing deck.
Peggy Gonder came out and saw them. She brought her Sibley's and tried for
some pictures.
