I spent all morning today perusing the thousands of birds congregating at
Walden Reservoir in Jackson County. A huge surprise was the discovery of over
40 Ring-billed Gull chicks huddled in pairs near a parent on the sandy beach
facing north at the gull breeding island. The chicks are whitish compared to
the darker brown chicks of the California Gulls. To my knowledge this is the
first breeding in Colorado since 1900!
