I easily found the "slough" or small marsh just north of the north
fence at the Walmart store at exit 82 (Barlow Road) in Fort Morgan.
However, there were no ducks there when I checked it off and on
for a two hour period. I checked other nearby sites - a little farther
east along the same slough and also the small pond across I-76 near
a campground, and no ducks were there either. Perhaps the EUWI will return,
as it has been reliable by the Walmart fence for a couple of weeks, I hear.
Neither did I find any White-winged Doves in town.
Thanks to Peter Walker for getting the word out on the wigeon.
He says that many local birders have seen it at that site and
that I have won the ignoble prize for being the first to miss it.
The ratio of the beautifulness of the weather to the number of target birds
was
quite high.
