The last couple or three times we've gone to watch the Red-tailed Hawk
nest at South Platte Park, the female has been seen sitting the nest,
but there's been no sign of the male. Today I saw the female leaving
the nest to hunt, never straying far, and frequently making flyovers
right over the nest, as though dividing her time trying to hunt and
protect the nest. I assume this means the male is out of the
picture. No idea of any eggs have hatched yet.... Hatched or not,
one can't help but wonder what chance they'll have, with only one
parent to incubate and protect them while doing all the hunting as
well.
