Despite deep snowpack around it and completely frozen surface water, the 
nesting birds were present on and around the nest island at Walden Reservoir.  
There were dozens of Cormorants, Pelicans and California Gulls and smaller 
numbers of Ring-billed Gull, Great Blue Heron and Black-crowned Night-Heron. It 
will be interesting to see if the Ring-billed Gulls nest successfully for the 
third consecutive year. There will be two field trips to this amazing avian 
breeding area as part of the upcoming Joint CFO-WFO convention at Cooper 
Mountain Resort July 19-23. I hope you can join us for the Convention. Check
