Personal firsts for Lake County today: a Black-necked Stilt at Crystal Lakes and 2 White Pelicans at the eastern end of Twin Lakes. 14 Am. Avocets at western end.
The wetland behind Crystal Lakes also had an intriguing heron (with a normal Great Blue Heron). This bird had the typical body coloration of a Great Blue, but with a clean white head and bright yellow bill; overall neck also paler than Great Blue. Wurdemann's ?(ridiculously far from S. FL range); partial albino Great Blue?; Great EgretxGreat Blue hybrid ? I was immediately struck by the head/bill looking just like a Great Egret, sleek, stark white, no head plumes, without the messy look of a Wurdemann's. Unfortunately, both herons flushed and flew south out of sight before I could study this oddity for any length of time.
