All,
I finally got to spend extended quality time birding Timnath Reservoir
today to follow up on my last post about the spot. I birded there for 4
1/2 hours from late morning today to late afternoon and felt like I covered
it pretty well. First off, what an absolutely gorgeous day to be

Indeed, many reservoirs Dave mentioned in and around the Fort Collins,

Since there's been some discussion re: access to Timnath Reservoir (Larimer

The Fort Collins Audubon Society Field trip to Timnath reservoir this morning

Hi all
TImnath Reservoir has drawn down a lot and has lots of birds--mostly on
north side of reservoir. Couldn't pick out anything unusual. Lots of
ducks ("billion" coots); gulls (usuals), some Forster's Terns; grebes,
pelicans, cormorants, herons, few Wilson's Warblers. It seems the marsh
Sean Walters reported earlier this month that the Town of Timnath had
adopted a policy excluding non-residents from access to Timnath Reservoir
and the town park on the west side of the reservoir.
I've been in touch with town officials on behalf of concerned birders and

At 5pm today there were hundreds of Ruddy Ducks and Western Grebes on
Timnath Reservoir. I also spotted 1 Clark's Grebe, 4 Red-breasted
Mergansers, about 45 Franklin's Gulls, and a couple dozen more common
species.

Hi,
I birded Timnath Reservoir late this afternoon from the south side, the
west side and the east side. There were at least 15 species of waterfowl
present, including hundreds of Cackling geese. I was looking into the sun
from the east shore so I probably missed some species.

Timnath Reservoir was teeming with birds this afternoon. Species that I
considered highlights were 2 Wilson's Snipe and 1 Pectoral Sandpiper in the
NE corner of the reservoir. Huge numbers of geese, ducks, grebes, herons,
cormorants, pelicans, coots and gulls. A single White-faced Ibis. No

It is a fairly large body of water but the water line is substantially lower
than last year. That being said, it has set up enough sand bars on the north
side of the reservoir for a group of at least 40 American white pelicans. The
other waterfowl and diving birds included:

I went to Timnath Reservoir this morning early to see what may be
there in the way of shorebirds. In total I scanned the north-east
corner, the north shore, the north-west corner, the west shore, and

I spotted the following:
Killdeer - dozens
Least Sandpiper - 3

Birders,
Yesterday, Wednesday, I stopped by Timnath Reservoir for about an hour at
11:15. There had been quite a turnover in birds in one day.
On Tuesday there had been quite a few Long-billed Dowitchers and a couple of
Short-billed and no Greater Yellowlegs. Yesterday there were no Dowitchers
Hello, Birders.
Nick Komar and I saw some nice birds up at Timnath Reservoir, barely in Larimer
County, earlier today, Saturday, August 14th.
First things first. As I was getting onto I-25, I saw an excellent fireball
high in the northeastern sky. I'd guess magnitude minus-six, maybe
