My birding travels over the weekend ...
Saturday:
- Sage Thrasher - 4 (along 41 btw 100/102. good spot to find them during
migrations (looked like a family unit, too). Also, loads of Lark Bunting,
some Grasshopper, Brewer's and Cassin's Sparrow, Bullock's Oriole, Northern

It was quite a fun day of birding in/around the Pawnee NG yesterday
highlights being:
- Brown Thrasher, Mountain Bluebird [Lone Tree Creek and Weld CR 100]
- Sandhill Crane - 150+ [Weld CR 116 and Hwy 77 Playa]
- Peregrine and Prairie Falcon (same time!) hunting shorebirds,

Hi all
Birded all around Weld yesterday ... saw 79 species with the following new
spring birds:
- Lark Bunting [Weld CR 96]
- Ruddy Duck [Loloff Reservoir]
- Swainson's Hawk [Beebe Draw]
- Semipalmated Sandpiper [Weld CR 59] --Both Loloff, Weld CR 59 probably
had total of 20+ pee
Tom Whitten and I had a productive trip to Weld County, covering some
ground and emptying a full tank of gas. Most of the day was high-velocity,
cold winds.
We searched numerous spots for Sharp-tailed Grouse and found two on CR111
1/2 mile north of CR128 (thanks Dave Leatherman). We found a Moun

The day I went up to Stewart's Pond, I actually found the GadwallxShoveler on a
smaller pond, just a bit east of Stewart's. I did get some decent photos. When
I record it on Ebird I will post the link so you can see it, if you'd like.

I thought about posting the subject of this message as "How many species can
one expec t to see in central Weld County in a single day of birding?" or "Are
rare birds actually common?" If you are interested in the answer to these
