Not a super rare bird but on my cool run (not like today) at Cherry Creek State
Park, I did observe a Great Blue Heron in the creek south of the main park road
near where a bridge crosses over the Cherry Creek. It was sort of protected
from the wind there but it surprised me.
Happy Valentine's
This morning about 10:45 the Boulder Bird Club was at Walden Ponds and we
observed a flock of birds off to the east, approximately over the White Rocks
area. We were able to watch them soar and identified them as Great Blue
Herons. Thankfully they worked their way toward us and we counted 65 -
In response to Linda's friend's great blue heron question, I'm writing to
report something similar on I saw my pond a few years ago.
I was watching a great blue heron fish and saw him bring a good-sized
fish up on the lawn, peck at it a couple of times and then pick it up and take
it back
I just saw great blue heron on Coal Creek where it goes under Empire Rd. in
Lafayette. It was first time I ever saw one in December.

After sunning himself for two 10 minute sessions, a great blue heron
walked into my pond, hung out for a few minutes and then proceeded to kill and
eat a muskrat . I think the muskrat was a juvenile but was still pretty large.
As with last year, I have up to 150 cormorants roosting

In Daughenbaugh Open Space north of Cherry St. and Coal Creek in
Louisville, I saw an amazing sight Sunday evening: a GBH stalking baby
prairie dogs! I didn't see it catch one, but I couldn't help but imagine
the heron trying to swallow a prairie dog. It might not be so different
from swallowing

Colorado Springs,
Saw a Great Blue Heron and a Snowy Egret in a sort of odd place
tonight just after 7pm...in the pond just north of the Broomfield
Library. Both were on the northern shoreline.
I've seen the Heron there a couple of times this spring, but not the
Egret. There was a Heron there for many weeks last sp
There is a very photogenic Great Blue Heron on the small island on the East
end of West Lake. West Lake is just east of the Youngfield entrance to the
Clear Creek green belt. A photograph of the heron on my website:
