Today on the Blanca Wetlands tour done as a part of the Monte Vista Crane
Festival we spotted a male Long-tailed Duck on the first Playa in Blanca
Wetlands among a group of Bufflehead and Ruddy Ducks. It was the first
record for Blanca Wetlands and the second for the San Luis Valley.
Casey Setash
2 Willets on March 14 flew up, on west side of Colorado 15 south of the Monte
Vista NWR office. Sandhill Cranes are putting on a great show on a sunny day in
the San Luis Valley. Also enjoyed Jason Beason’s Black Swift presentation at
the Crane Festival.

You
Good day!
While taking the monthly Cooley Lake hike in South Platte Park, I was
surprised to see a tree swallow so early, FOS. Only one flying near the
lake and then landed on one of the bluebird houses very close from where we
were. I guess spring is here!
Happy Pi day!
