To post to this group,
This morning, I had a Northern Waterthrush and Northern Mockingbird at
Willow Spring Open Space in Centennial (Arapahoe). The mockingbird was
along the dam, on the Holly St. side. The waterthrush was in a slow moving
creek on the other side of the dam. The waterthrush was a state bird for
me.
Yesterday at the Wright-Schriver Wildlife Area (north of Home Lake in Monte
Vista), I observed a single Northern Waterthrush in the bog to the south
(Rio Grande County). There likely was a second bird there as well chipping
some calls at me.
I know some of you are seeing reports about birds
All,
The Worm-eating Warbler is still present as of 450pm Saturday along with a

There was a nice variety of resident songbirds and grounded migrants this
afternoon along the Mayhoffer-Singletree trail in Superior.

I just relocated the Yellow-throated Vireo at CU Boulder east campus. It was in
a cottonwood along the creek, where several paths converge, just southwest of
the Arapahoe Ave underpass.
Cape May Warbler and Northern Waterthrush still being seen as well.

A group of us had the pleasure of birding the Zapata Ranch this morning. We
were invited by John Sanderson of the Nature Conservancy and were tasked
with coming up with a daylist of birds in celebration of global bird day
and the year of the bird. The count was part of TNC trying to get all

This IS a great birding spot but FYI that the bridge has been rebuilt and
was opened to traffic last week so there might be a little more traffic
than has recently been the case. Several spots along the road that had
been only gravel are now freshly blacktopped as well.

Hello, Birders.
As John Rawinski mentioned earlier, The Nature Conservancy conducted a
"bird blitz" of its Colorado preserves earlier today, Saturday, May 12.
With Michele Battiste, Lauryn Wachs, and Andrew Floyd, plus a cameo (and a
valuable assist) from a former mayor of Yuma, I birded the
On today's Chatfield Spring Count Steve Stachowiak and I identified (not
hard) an adult Golden-crowned Sparrow along the Highland Canal east of the

Canal (and south of the Chatfield pay station).
Question, does ANYONE
Hi all,
I found a TENNESSEE WARBLER about 45 minutes ago (sorry, phone battery died) in
the hawthorn/chokecherry/plum thicket just west of the trailhead at W Thomas St
& 3rd ave in Superior. It was relatively low on the west side of the second
willow clump. The bird was not cooperative for
A 1st year male *Summer Tanager* visited the suet feeders in my yard this
evening, with a male *Western Tanager*. My son Stephen gets credit for
spotting these birds. There were some migrants around my home area this
morning, but not many. *Lazuli Buntings *and *Yellow Warblers *were the

This afternoon, I took a break from yard work to find a Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher that I heard calling from above me, then a Hairy Woodpecker I
heard calling from my right. That drew my attention to a small warbler in
an elm, which, after a series of bad views, turned into a Virginia's
Warbler, my
First Western Tanager I’ve seen in my yard since May 2010. It was eating suet
at 5:50 PM until a Bushtit joined it. Then the tanager flew away. Hope it
comes back tomorrow.

Worm-eating was still there an hour later, but didn't see the Waterthrush.
Did see a Green-tailed Towhee though. Thanks to Cole & Beth for showing me
