Rare and out of range
Well the snow and cold seem to have slowed down the birds a bit. Very few
cranes around the Valley and only saw 2 this morning on the 1S road east of
the 3E.
Home Lake is nearly all frozen, except for a small pool where Canada Geese,
American Wigeon and other ducks are keeping it open. A
This morning at 8am I observed a 1st winter Blackburnian Warbler in conifer
trees east of Airport Road along Dry Creek Greenway (Kristen Schall
Greenspace), where a spur trail leads north to Staghorn Drive.
Another non-Yellow-rumped Warbler (sharp chip) was also present in the pine

Hello!
This morning at South Platte Reservoir, Lindsay Purifoy and I had a Palm
Warbler near the small parking lot on the SW corner. It was
skulking mainly in Rabbitbrush, dried thistle and a very small juniper
nearby. Lots of birders were out and others got to see it as well and get
pics.
A Northern Goshawk swooshed through our yard yesterday afternoon. Most of the
birds feeding ignored it -- jays, juncos, etc. It made 2-3 passes, then
disappeared.

Today at Douglas Reservoir I had the following:
Red-breasted Merganser (few)
Common Merganser (at least 50)
Ring-necked Duck (1f)

Today while out for a walk along the river I was five minutes from my car
and the end of my walk near the Bowls underpass when I saw a Bald Eagle and
got quite the show. The eagle, a full grown adult, came flying over the
river chasing a Canada Goose. The goose was either knocked out of the air
At around 10:30 this morning, while exploring the CU South Campus trail in
Boulder, I came across a Golden-crowned Sparrow loosely associating with a
flock of American Tree Sparrows. It was directly south of the parking lot
for the South Campus Tennis Complex, in the willows thickets that
There is now an eBird "stakeout hotspot" pin marker where Scott found this
rarity.
It may show up on the hotspot map today or not until tomorrow.
