This is a preliminary announcement regarding three exciting field surveys to be
conducted later this year by Colorado Field Ornithologists and The Nature
Conservancy in Colorado.
First up is an overnight survey for Black Rails at the private Brett Gray
Ranch, Lincoln County,
Gene Rutherford and I saw a singing male Northern Parula at Rose Pond,
Pueblo County and a Wilson's Warbler. The banding station in El Paso
County, I saw a male Black-throated Gray Warbler.

Hiked from Island Grove trailhead until 25th Avenue. Total of 39 species,
highlights were:
Hermit Thrush
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow-rumped Warbler
House Wren
Blue-winged Teal (3-first time I've seen them on trail)
Snowy Egret
Black-crowned Night Heron
Chipping, Vesper Sparrow
Say's Phoebe
I'm not sure this is of interest but I have a singleband-tailed pigeon feeding
on seeds that I havethrown on the ground. This is in grassland/juniper/a few
pinon pineshabitat at 6100 ft ca. 8 mi. ssw pf Florence, fremont co. the
plumagelooks all new as if it recentlywent through a

Sunday we saw a Ash-throated flycatcher and a group of Chipping sparrows
between the bridge and the banding station. Could not find the earlier find of
the Hooded Warbler.

Banding report from CBR for Monday:
Very slow start, some activity around 8:30. and a few warblers high in the
trees, but action started about 10am when the sparrows moved up into the woods
to get out of the heat. Total new banded birds today - 49. Pretty good for a
