This evening there were 5 Baird's Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated Plover, 2
American Avocets and one each Willet, Greater Yellowlegs and Spotted
Sandpiper. Add in the screaming and somewhat cranky Killdeer and that comes
to a tidy seven shorebird species...not too bad for May 1.

Things continue to be slow at Chatfield. Yesterday (4/30) was so quiet
that we didn't even catch any birds at the nets at the feeders at the
Nature Center. Banded 3 House Wrens total for the day. Today was a little
better, but not great; had hoped for a little more action with the change

My daughter-in-law reported yesterday a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (STFL)
appeared in her yard. Could this be the same bird that was there for the
majority of the summer, last year? Interestingly, this bird is using the
same redbud tree near her garden beds as the visiting STFL did last
summer.
A few minutes ago two crossbills landed briefly in a neighbor's tree while
about six Pine Siskins feasted on my thistle. First crossbills for my yard list!
All headed east toward Lafayette!

I've been remiss in posting on local happenings for many months, so here goes

I flushed, on several occasions, a common poorwill at Denver Botanic Gardens in
Denver. White corners on tail were very noticeable, as was a light / white line
under the head when perched on the ground.

Hi COBirders,
After a couple of slow days banding at CSR, the small front and change in
weather overnight brought a turnover in birds. Between 7:30 and 9:30 I caught
about 30 birds, the most numerous being three flocks of mixed Yellow-rumped
Warblers, which have just been seen high in the

Subject: Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at Chatfield?
Hi Hugh,
Paul Schlagbaum (who is included on this email) visited our office today and
said he spotted a scissor-tailed flycatcher near the entrance to the Plum Creek
picnic area at Chatfield.
The Scissor-tailed flycatcher reported to Audubon by Paul Schlagbaum this
morning was still present at noon.
Look for the bird between the roads to the Plum Creek picnic area and the Plum
Creek natural area.
