Nick Komar and I had the Baird's Sparrows on CR 5 in northern Larimer
County this morning during a short trip before work. One of the birds was
singing a weak song fairly close to the road (and even landed on the fence)
and the other was further away but singing more frequently. We last heard

I watched 3 Red Crossbill eating grit from the dirt lot at south Heil
Valley Ranch this week and it reminded me of a winters day some years past
watching a sizeable flock of White winged Crossbill pecking away at a
roadbed just a few short yards from the Atlantic Ocean. Carl

On my daily birding/newspaper buying walk in Estes Park this morning, I was
amazed to find a handsome male Lewis's Woodpecker posing in a dead ponderosa
pine along Mary's Lake Road just uphill from the intersection with Lower
Broadview Road. I got a quick, out-of-focus picture before it flew
