No real rarities for Hannah Floyd and me this snowy Sunday afternoon, Apr.
17, at Boulder Reservoir, Boulder County, but the scene there was
nevertheless spectacular--as it typically is during spring snowstorms. Most
of the action was on the sprawling mudflats at the main north
I just (7:20) had the loon on the WAY east side looking from Willows
Landing.

I decided to take a drive out to the eastern plains of El Paso Country this
morning to see raptors and migrants. Despite the wind, it was a productive
couple of hours! A few highlights: Saw dozens of northern mockingbirds and
several flocks of western bluebirds blowing around in the strong

The adult Brown Pelican persists in the stilling basin below the dam at
John Martin Reservoir (Bent County) as of 4/17. If present, it often
roosts on the lone emergent rock in the middle of the basin. It is easy
to see from the pullouts on the dam, but you can get much closer
On my way home from Chico Basin Ranch, where I saw, among other birds, gray
flycatcher, hermit thrush and golden-crowned kinglet, I stopped at Squirrel
Creek Rd and Ellicott to look for mountain plover. Did not see the plover, but
there were two long-billed curlews in the same field on the

I was at the Osprey Picnic Area, below Pueblo Reservoir dam this morning
(Pueblo County), when I saw a Caspian Tern fly by. Also, all six normal
species of swallows were present along the Arkansas River, below Pueblo
Reservoir dam as well. I didn't see any low flying small swifts this
Great find, Rob. Definitely a Vermilion Flycatcher. A drab first spring female.
