After Mark Obmascik and his team won a Pulitzer Prize, what was left in
journalism? Birding??? It’s true. The Big Year united three very different
characters in a quest for the ultimate birding prize—the Big Year record! What
do the three think how they are characterized in the book? How did Mark ever
learn so many “interesting” stories about Sandy Komito? So Owen Wilson is going
to be Sandy Komito in the movie? Really??? How could they ever reproduce the
dilapidation of the Attu “Hilton?” Where could they find Norway rats?
For the answer to these questions and many more, come to Rocky Mountain Bird
Observatory’s BBQ picnic Saturday, August 27. "The Big Year" author Mark
Obmascik will also be at the BBQ to share stories about writing the book and
making the movie of the same name, starring Jack Black and Steve Martin, to be
released on October 14.
