Hugh at al, Those ash you refer to in Colorado National Monument are Singleleaf Ash (Fraxinus anomala), a little known native tree of the Southwest that barely gets into our area. The anomala comes from its having a single, shovelhead-looking leaf, instead of the compound leaves of other ash.
