Is a HUD panel supposed to be translucent?

I was under the impression that a HUD panel (NSWindowStyleMaskHUDWindow) was supposed to be dark and translucent. But for me it's dark but not at all translucent. Am I just mis-remembering? I'm running Monterey. ___ Cocoa-dev mailing list
