I'm sure many have got it to work in Cocoon using Saxon. Using Cocoon
2.0.4 Out of
map:match pattern=images/*.gif
map:read src=workflowmanager/images/{1}.gif mime-type=image/gif/

using this mach pattern in cocoon's main sitemap
workflowmanager/images/ must be a physical path under ./cocoon/ dir
./cocoon/workflowmanager/images/ must exist in your disk
put
I wrote this in my main sitemap
map:pipeline
map:match pattern=wfm/images/*.gif
map:read src=workflowmanager/images/{1}.gif
mime-type=image/gif/
/map:match
/map:pipeline
