Here the solution I found for the problem. Not elegant but it works.

In autoexec.bat set tomcat options.
set JAVA_FONTS=C:\j2sdk1.4.1_01\jre\lib\fonts
set JAVA_OPTS=-Djava.awt.headless
May be ..\tomcat\bin\catalina.bat is a better place for these environment
variables.

Probably because you don't have "Arial Narrow" installed on the Linux machine
