I want a text field to have a size specified by the kind of browser...
Maybe rather use browser selector to pass a parameter to my xsl...?

I think that you can do that using a xsl document() pointing to a
cocoon url with http generator and xml serializer.
This is a VERY powerful option of Cocoon.
