The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a knowledgeable, 
innovative, and highly collaborative Entrepreneurship and Business Librarian, 
who will partner with and deliver research support to a wide variety of 
stakeholders. The Entrepreneurship and Business Librarian plays an important 
role in the Library's support of the Innovate Carolina initiative and the 
growing Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship.

The Entrepreneurship and Business Librarian will be working with energetic and 
creative partners inside and outside the Library to ensure that students in the 
entrepreneurship minor; student entrepreneurs in for-profit, non-profit, and 
social ventures; and people launching start-up ventures know how to use 
business resources to help them develop entrepreneurial ideas, explore markets 
for those ideas, and find funding. The Entrepreneurship and Business Librarian 
will also forge relationships with individual entrepreneurs, small business 
owners, campus and local business incubators, and startup accelerators.

As a member of the Research and Instructional Services department, the 
Entrepreneurship and Business Librarian will provide research consultations and 
offer innovative instruction and course development support for 
entrepreneurship, economics, and business classes. The Entrepreneurship and 
Business Librarian will be responsible for assessing and acquiring collections 
in business and economics, and serving on the Social Sciences collection 
development team. They will work closely with the Library Research Hub staff, 
the librarian at Kenan-Flagler Business School, and with information 
professionals that support Innovate Carolina and the Office of 
Commercialization and Economic Development.  

The successful candidate will also contribute to library-wide initiatives by 
serving on library and campus committees, participating in strategic planning 
activities, and cooperating closely with other library units. In addition, the 
candidate should be prepared to participate in scholarly research and be 
professionally active. Early career librarians are welcome and encouraged to

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or related 
advanced degree
Demonstrated ability to engage with a variety of user populations
Demonstrated experience delivering instruction and research support services in 
business or economics in an academic library or comparable setting
Familiarity with a broad range of business and economics resources
Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment
Knowledge of and ability to use available statistical data for the social 
sciences
Excellent oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

2 years of professional experience, preferably in an academic or special 
library or a research institution
Master’s in Business Administration or related advanced degree (including but 
not limited to management, economics, accounting, finance, marketing, 
operations, and entrepreneurship)
Evidence of the ability to participate in professional organizations and engage 
in research and publication as required for promotion

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate 
with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave,
