[CODE4LIB] ISBN metadata look up

2012-07-05 Thread Robert Berry
Hi everyone,

Does anyone have experience looking up metadata via ISBN using publicly
available APIs? I know of several that are available, but could anyone
tell me which are worth using and which avoiding?

Best wishes,

I am guessing that you have seen:
http://broadcast.oreilly.com/2010/11/getting-drupal-and-mod-securit.html

The bulk of the difficult issues with mod_security and Drupal seem to
be version conflicts between mod_security and versions of Apache and
other CentOS/RHEL/Fedora components.

Re: [CODE4LIB] Unified Digital Format Registry (UDFR) now available

2012-07-05 Thread Ashton, Andrew
I've recently had a need to find identifiers for programming conventions
and syntax standards (e.g. regex, xpath). That seems more granular than
the data the UDFR is dealing with, but I wonder if there are any other
registries or collections that cover this sort of data. DBpedia is OK, but
it doesn't get at different versions or implementations. Just curious...

 The University of California Curation Center (UC3) is pleased to announce
 the availability of the Unified Digital Format Registry (UDFR).
 http://udfr.org/

 The goal of the UDFR project is to unify the function and data holdings
 of PRONOM and GDFR into a new semantically-enabled, community-supported,
 open source registry of format representation information. The initial
 UDFR data were imported from the IANA MIME type registry and PRONOM, and
 include information about:

 * 846 file formats

 * 28 character encodings

 * 17 compression algorithms

 * 1,198 MIME types

 * 548 external signatures (file extensions)

 * 494 internal signatures (magic numbers)

 * 268 software packages

 * 156 agents

 The UDFR is based on the OntoWiki semantic wiki platform and the Virtuoso
 RDF quadstore. A user's guide to the UDFR, including an introductory
 Getting Started section, is available at http://udfr.org/docs. Use of
 the UDFR is open to the public, although contribution of new, or editing of
 existing, data requires prior self-service account registration.

 Development of the UDFR was generously supported by the Library of
 Congress as part of its National Digital Information Infrastructure
 Preservation Program (NDIIPP). More information about the UDFR project is
 available at http://udfr.org/project. A mailing list,
 udf...@listserv.ucop.edumailto:udf...@listserv.ucop.edu, is available
 for comments and discussion. To subscribe, follow the instructions at
 http://udfr.org/docs.

[CODE4LIB] Fwd: [CODE4LIB] Win glory and honor! Give a talk at Code4Lib Midwest!

2012-07-05 Thread Ranti Junus
Hello All,

Welp, it's about 3 more weeks to go! We still have enough spots for
participants and *plenty* of slots open for the program. Things that
are probably mundane thing to you might actually help others. Matthew
the Programming Lord might have a surprise if your presentation/talk
is voted as the best one.*

Or, if you have an idea or topic you want to know or work on but not
sure how to present/work on it, write it down anyway. We might be able
to have a discussion or hackfest on it.

http://wiki.code4lib.org/index.php/Midwest

Looking forward to hear from lots of you!

thanks,
ranti.

*not really, I'm pulling Matthew's leg. But, who knows. He's a super
creative guy.

Hello all,

Code4Lib Midwest is coming up next month, and we still have plenty of
slots open for attendees and presenters. C4L Midwest is a low-key but
wildly informative two days of geeking out with both techie and
non-techie library-types over a wide range of creative solutions to
the problems all of us are facing.

If you've been working on solving problems at your library using
technology, whether in code or microchips, consider giving us a little
talk about your progress, your successes, or your failures. It's a
fun, supportive, low-pressure environment with people who will laugh
when you make a joke about Quirks Mode.

Sign up today! Glory and honor can be yours!
