Duties: Reporting to the Web Services Librarian, the Analyst Programmer 
develops, maintains, and troubleshoots web based applications in support of 
University Library's goals. Responsibilities include scripting and programming 
for applications developed in-house, customization and enhancement of 
open-source and vendor applications, working with vendor or open-source 
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and management of in-house 
databases. In addition, the Analyst Programmer develops end-user interfaces and 
dynamic forms for web applications using a variety of scripting languages and 
frameworks including PHP, JavaScript, CSS, XML/XSL, and RSS. This position 
works with project stakeholders as needed to further develop or enhance 
application designs or features. This position also works collaboratively with 
library Systems personnel to implement and configure web servers in support of 
web development activities, authentication technologies and server security.  

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; 
or a combination of education and experience.  

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related 
field and three years of related experience. Working knowledge of programming 
and scripting for web applications in languages such as PHP, JavaScript, and 
SQL. Knowledge of interface development using CSS, Ajax, jQuery. Experience 
working in a Linux environment and working with the Apache web server.

Position and Responsibilities:
Georgia State University Library seeks a creative and innovative
individual to provide leadership as the Web Services  Librarian. This
position works both independently and collaboratively to provide
expertise in the design, implementation,  monitoring and evaluation of
current and future web interfaces and technologies that provide user
access to the Library's  resources and services. The incumbent
identifies policy, technical, and programmatic needs of the Library’s
web site and  various web applications running locally or from hosted
services.

The Web Services Librarian collaborates and leads discussion with
library employees, committees, groups, and departments  regarding
website and application interface functionality. The Web Services
Librarian will provide leadership on website  policy and technical
standards, and adhere to those standards/policies while creating a
supportive, collaborative  atmosphere working with the Department Head
and management to establish policies and procedures, priorities, and 
timelines. Other responsibilities include maintaining current awareness
of digital library technologies and actively  participating in local,
national, and international meetings and organizations. As a faculty
member, the incumbent will  serve on library committees and engage in
scholarly activities.

The Web Services Librarian reports to the Head of Digital Library
Services and supervises two Web Programmer Analysts,  student workers,
and Graduate Research Assistants as needed.

Department  Campus Environment:
The Digital Library Services department uses open source and standard
web development practices to create and provide a  library web presence,
including content management, blogging, and wiki applications. The
department is responsible for  developing, customizing, and integrating
various web applications from vendors and open source platforms used by
both  internal and external customers. Leadership in the area of content
digitization, storage, and presentation will be a  growing
responsibility of the department. The library uses CONTENTdm to create
and present our digital collections on the  web, and LibGuides to
present librarian created web content to our customers, and Ex Libris
products including SFX,  MetaLib, and Voyager as a member of the GALILEO
state library consortium.

Since its 2007 renovation, the Georgia State University Library
provides one of the most attractive, open and inviting  educational
facilities in the Southeast. With over 1.5 million visitors this past
year, the library is an integral part  of the university community. It
supports both teaching and research with an expansive collection and
outstanding  assistance. The library also exhibits a new, modern image,
providing the campus with an attractive, centralized location.  Its
signature bridge, a glass link that overlooks downtown Atlanta, connects
the library’s two prominent buildings. Many  appreciate the comfort of
the library’s new interior design, often enjoying a coffee from the
cafe located on the first  floor.

Library services are supported by the Ex Libris Voyager integrated
library system. The University System of Georgia  statewide system,
GALILEO, provides access to electronic resources and other materials for

 Regional Consortium for Higher Education.

Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial,
service-oriented and dynamic head of Digital Library Services who will
provide leadership and management for information technologies, digital
initiatives, and web services. The Digital Library Services Department
Head, reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Learning and
Technology Initiatives, leads a department consisting of two library
faculty and three staff members and serves on the library administrative
team that provides overall direction for the library in fulfilling the
research, teaching, and service mission of the University.

The department works collaboratively with campus computing to install
and maintain networking, network security, and computer workstations in
the library including the new learning commons. The department fulfills
a support role by building and implementing various web applications and
tools library-wide. Additionally, the department is active in the
development of the campus portal and maintains a presence on the campus
I.T. committees and consortial (GALILEO) committees for I.T. and web
services.

The department head sets direction for the Library*s information
technology environment and services through strategic planning, resource
allocation and management, assessment, and policy development.

Responsibilities
Oversees the Libraries* technology infrastructure, I.T. support, web
services, and other information access and production technologies.
Provides leadership in the development of the library*s digital
infrastructure, and digital and information technology initiatives.
Works with Library faculty and staff to research and develop new and
innovative technologies and services. Identifies and reports on success
measures for library systems and web services. Manages effective
implementation of change. Maintains current awareness of digital library
technologies, developments, and effective practices. Supervises a
department currently consisting of two librarians and three staff.
Serves as liaison to the University*s Information Systems and
Technology organization, and identifies opportunities to maintain,
improve, and strengthen collaborations with campus computing and
consortial projects. Represents the library through participation in
local, regional, and national cooperative, outreach, and professional
activities; serves on University Committees and University System of
Georgia initiatives.

Requirements
ALA-accredited master*s degree. Minimum of three years of
increasingly responsible experience in management of information
technology in an academic library or university setting. Supervisory
experience. Knowledge of information technology trends and applications.
Familiarity with best practices, standards, and trends in the
application of technology in libraries. Demonstrated commitment
to user-centered service and knowledge of usability studies and
assessment methods. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED: Degree in computer science or other relevant field. Systems
analysis and design experience, including experience implementing
digital library initiatives. Successful project management experience.
Applied knowledge of network architectures and systems administration
for large complex systems, software applications, web development, and
content management systems.
