[CODE4LIB] Auto filling ILLiad forms without WC Discovery
Hey Code4libers, So our statewide purchase of OCLC's WorldCat Discovery ended this spring and now with the new school year, all the ramifications of this to Interlibrary loan and training the new crop of patrons is now becoming clear. We haven't seen it happen yet, but besides losing our union catalog link (http://wncln.worldcat.org/), the understanding is that if all libraries that don't subscribe will not have their holdings show up in the public display of worldcat.org. (WorldShare ILL will see it, but public patrons will not.) I'm surprised...Is OCLC really going to hide the holdings of those libraries that don't subscribe to OCLC Discovery? Seems kind of odd that a database we all worked together to create would do that...but that is what I understand... Is that yours too? The biggest issues we are hearing from our Reference and ILL staff is the lost the ability to auto fill a request when searching/linking search to worldcat.org. I'm wondering if others in the Code4lib world might have a fix for this issue of auto filling the information about an item scraped from public worldcat.org site into an ILLiad request form? Do you have other solutions? Jill Ellern
[CODE4LIB] What Wiki program to you recommend?
Hey C4L folks, I'm about to work on a project to create a directory of all the local libraries for the library employees in my area (public libraries, academic - community colleges and university level, as well as small special libraries). My thought is to include pictures as well as other info. I want to put it on a Wiki but there are so many flavors. What would you recommend for such a project? Do you know of any other regions that are doing this? Thanks, Jill Ellern
[CODE4LIB] Pidgin, Digsby and others?
We are wondering if you all might have some experience with other chat aggregators that work better then Pidgin? Digsby was recommended but I'm wondering if there are others we should look at for the reference desk. They are particularly looking at ones that help them with their stats on sessions...Might you have any suggestions? Thanks, Jill --

Re: [CODE4LIB] drupal question
At this point I'm just investigating our options. The campus is using RedDot and clamps us down significantly on what we can do on it. (I'm reminded of the words from the theme from Outer Limits...we control the vertical and the horizontal...lol) I thought it might be nice to play with our insider (or in-house pages) on Drupal to kind of test the waters and see what we think. We have several digital collections, an access database of databases, and several scripts that are non-RedDot insider data... I've been doing a space needs analysis the last few weeks... So it's on my mind. At Code4Lib, you folks sure made it seem glowing for library type applications. We had a web server that did run Clio but were pushed into a hosted ILLiad site situation. I was hoping to use that virtual server as a test bed for drupal...but my IT folks are not so keen on this idea and started asking for money to still use it. It just seemed to me that where it sits these days is not as big of thing when money is involved...security not withstanding... Either a server we buy or hosted offsite. However, I don't know where to start. I know we can put this open source software on a PC...and we've done that but this isn't a solution for a production level web service What is the average cost of hosting a drupal server out there in the cloud? [CODE4LIB] Skyriver discussions?
Thought I'd ask this group the same question I've asked my UNC system librarians... I just came back from IUG and am pretty excited about adding the ability to text bib information. We are looking into adding the app to our Innopac results But we also use Aquabrower as a front end. [CODE4LIB] Mobile emulators and sites to search
Code4Lib folks, I was very impressed with the talks at the conference on Mobile Catalog searching and what to do a show and tell for my library staff. However, Kim Griggs presentation doesn't appear to be up yet...:( (I really liked your presentation! Others did great too...) And I didn't take good enough notes because I was hoping to play that presentation to my library folks... So we were wondering, Is there a mobile emulator for the Android phone you would recommend? Is there a list somewhere of sites that show off Mobile searching well that you would recommend? Jill

[CODE4LIB] Code4Lib Van service to and from the Asheville Airport
Code4Lib conference attendees: Since the price of taxi service from the airport is pretty steep (I've heard $40 taxi ride one way), the WCU and ASU libraries are looking at ways to help. We are planning to provide a limited van shuttle service for the Code4Lib conference coming and going to the Asheville airport. (We need a good name...perhaps the Air2Hot Van) We now have access to two minivans that can hold maximum of 6 passengers with their bags per trip. A Asheville Airport to Hotel Van Manifest has been drafted for the van loads based on flight information provided by attendees on the Rideshare wiki. Check out http://wiki.code4lib.org/index.php/Asheville_Airport_to_Hotel_Van_Manifest to see what we have created. In addition, we are requesting that passengers wanting to use this service provide us with their email and cell phone information so we can contact you directly. Please send this information to ksclarke+c4lr...@gmail.commailto:ksclarke+c4lr...@gmail.com to confirm your spot. We will update the confirmed column in the table so you know we have received it. We only have a limited space on these two vans so make sure your information is correct. Please check both your flight arrival and departure times. We hope to provide a ride for everyone to/from the airport that needs it but only for Sunday-Friday. We suspect that there might be many more attendees needing rides during this period then have currently signed up for on the wiki. We will attempt to accommodate all those that have signed up but we only have the two vans and it's an hour and a half roundtrip to the hotel. Priority will be given to those how have already signed up right now. We will do our best with anyone who adds their info after this message is sent out. First check out the table to see what spots we have left in the current load runs. If the van is filled or doesn't currently run during your needed time slot, please add your information to the bottom of the rideshare page http://wiki.code4lib.org/index.php/C4L2010rideshare . We will look to see if we can accommodate your requests in our schedule. Please don't add loads to the manifest document yourself. We will monitor the rideshare list and add runs as we are able. Email me directly if you have any questions. We are working with the Guest Services and Ground Transportation Desk at the Asheville Airport baggage claim area to coordinating the pickup location for our vans. More information about this will be forthcoming directly to your provided email and cell phone info. Looking forwards to seeing you all in person. Feedback is welcome. Check out http://wiki.code4lib.org/index.php/Asheville_Airport_to_Hotel_ Van_Manifest to see what we have created. [CODE4LIB] A simple windows macro program?
Hey Code4Lib folks, Not sure if there are any Clio ILL software users in the Code4Lib group...but we are interested in getting Clio to pull emails from the ClioAdvanced email more often. We are thinking there must be a windows macro/scripting program on top of Clio (which is an MS Access application for those not familiar with it) would be the best idea. Right now, it needs human intervention to run the menu option to pop these requests into Clio...and they only do it once or twice a day. We want this menu option in Clio to run every 15-20 minutes all day. However, we are not familiar with what programs are out there that would be good to look at. Can you folks make a suggestion? Has anyone done this already with Clio? Thanks, Jill Ellern Systems Librarian Western Carolina University
