LAC Group seeks professional Librarians and Information Technicians to 
implement and start-up an integrated library system (ILS) for our government 
client located in Forest Park, GA, outside of Atlanta.   This will be a 
full-time position for 6 months to a year of service working with library 
software and information to get the newly acquired Sirsi/Dynix Symphony ILS 
system up and running.  This position requires someone with a Secret Clearance 
(or higher). Subject to award.
Qualifications:

  *   Have management or technical experience in the areas of analysis, 
evaluation, planning, design, development, implementation and support of 
complex programs, primarily working with a library Integrated Library Systems 
(Sirsi/Dynix Symphony).
  *   Experience in planning and overseeing large-scale software 
implementations or technical programs
  *   Has knowledge of library techniques, systems and procedures with some 
knowledge of sources of reference on bibliographical material.
  *   Experience in the analysis, design, development, installation or support 
of routine computer software programs in broad multi-user areas such as: 
acquisition/development of systems and equipment, library systems; archival 
systems, knowledge and information management;
  *   Must have previous experience working with Sirsi/Dynix Symphony  ILS, or 
similar, particularly in the areas of implementation

for a prestigious government library on-site at Fort Belvoir, VA. This is a 
full-time position for approximately 8 weeks, to develop and populate 27 
individual websites using existing content. This project will collocate, 
organize and classify licensed and public domain resource content for specific 
subject areas providing institutional electronic access enabling enhanced 
knowledge and more efficient and effect delivery of institutional objectives. 
This position is in Ft. Belvoir, VA.

Responsibilities:

  *   Responsible for website data placement and integrity
  *   Understand the website design template, the website data status of each 
resource, the data file PDF construction, nomenclature and saving process, and 
the start/continue loading timeframe from resource folders (from the data 
gatherers and maintenance librarian) and from subject term folders (from the 
reference librarians and maintenance librarian)
  *   Subject classification will denote organizing data resource file content 
according to government designated subject terms creating subject-specific 
knowledge structures. This will enable website users to access website content 
by subject or by resource. Subject classification has no relationship to any 
type of US Government security classification

Qualifications:

  *   Associate's degree (Bachelor's degree preferred) in computer related 
field with courses in website development, design, and management
  *   Working knowledge of XHTML, CSS, Adobe, and Photoshop

LAC Group is seeking Content Archivists and Content Technicians for several 
short-term projects. The duration of the projects, which will take place in 
several cities throughout the United States vary in length from a few weeks to 
several months. Archivists, Librarians, Technicians and other information 
specialists with strong backgrounds in electronic content are strongly 
encouraged to apply. The work must be done on-site in each locale.

Responsibilities:
* Consolidate existing content-inventory records (whether electronic or 
paper)
* Work with client to locate, identify materials and coordinate 
scheduling.
* Gather, update, export, and upload existing inventory records to the 
Content Inventory Project (CIP) web-based database
* Create electronic records for content that has not been inventoried 
yet using the CIP inventory form
* Work with project manager to migrate existing records to CIP (likely 
using XML and other relevant tools)
* Write 1-page summary with photos assessing the collection and 
estimating time needed to complete the inventory
* Write 2 reports detailing steps taken and recommendations for the 
local station(s) to follow in order to participate in this project
* Complete each organization's electronic inventory at the item level 
of public-content media archives (tools may include FilemakerPro, Excel, 
web-based forms, etc.)
* Deliver completed inventory to host organization


Minimum Qualifications

 *   Must have experience or ability to work in a production/quota-based 
environment
 *   Must have knowledge of XML, metadata used in video and audio files, 
various file formats, broadcast and production standards for A/V files
 *   Must have experience in public radio/TV production, A/V file formats, 
moving-image archives, audio archives, and/or PBCore metadata standards
 *   Must be able to use Excel, FilemakerPro, and other technological tools in 
order to complete the inventory
 *   Must be able to work efficiently and independently

LAC is seeking a Team Lead - USAID Document Repository to join a contract 
supporting USAID's Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC).  The DEC is 
USAID's main repository of reports, studies, policy documents and other 
products of the Agency's development projects. The records represent USAID's 
vast development experience, and are a vital element of the Agency's knowledge 
management program. USAID is expanding the DEC's holdings, adding new social 
media tools and making the collection more accessible and useful to the

The DEC Team Lead will oversee a team of 12 who are responsible for expanding 
the contents of the DEC to meet the information needs of USAID and the 
continued evolution of the DEC software platform to support new types of data 
and social media tools.  In addition, the Team Lead will engage in strategic 
communications to share the value of the DEC and conduct needs assessments to 
refine its use.

LAC is seeking candidates for immediate consideration for the position of 
Processing Supervisor to work on a contract position at an academic library in 
New Orleans, LA. The primary role of the Processing Supervisor is to oversee 
the workflow in the Processing Area and to develop and oversee the procedures 
for the processing function areas supervised.  The Processing Supervisor has 
oversight of the Processing Area, which includes Bindery, Processing, and 
Shelving with inputs from Acquisitions, Cataloging, and special HTML projects. 
The Processing Supervisor reports directly to the Project Manager and 
supervises the Processing Team staff members.

Primary Responsibilities

This list represents the primary duties and responsibilities of the position 
and is not intended to be all-inclusive.

* Supervise Processing Area staff (currently Processing staff includes 
one Shelving Supervisor, one Processing Technician, three Library Assistants, 
and two Labeling Clerks).

* Set daily assignments and priorities for all staff in processing area.

* Provide oversight for Belfor reinstatement portion of the project.

* Coordinate processing with both Cataloging and Acquisitions Teams.

* Provide oversight for Government Documents sorting, shelving, and 
basic inventory of items being withdrawn from the collection.

* Train new Processing staff members and ensure their following of 
established procedures.

* Provide ongoing quality control (QC) to ensure that all processed 
materials accurately follow our client's processing documentation.

* Trouble-shoot problems, and handle difficult or problematic items 
including obtaining and implementing judgments as to best practices for unique 
items.

* Perform standard processing and/or labeling tasks to maintain 
workflow, as is necessary.

* Provide semi-monthly reports to LAC Project Manager regarding work 
and progress made by Processing Area staff.

* Write and maintain procedure manuals for assigned special projects 
and for specific tasks.

* Prepare shipments to HTML and oversee remote shelving.

* Participate in meetings with our client's principal points of 
contact, as needed, with regards to updates on the Processing Area.

* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Minimum 2 years of experience working in a library setting performing 
tasks related to circulation, shelving, or physical processing.

* Prior supervisory experience, and an effective management style.

* Prior experience training and orienting employees.

* Ability to use metrics effectively and to link staff duties to 
project goals.

* Ability to work in a production-driven environment with constantly 
shifting priorities and demands.

* Effective written and verbal communication skills.





Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with Voyager or other library integrated system (ILS).

* Knowledge of Dewey, LC, and SuDoc classification schemes.

* Experience in an academic library.

Library Associates Companies (LAC) is seeking an experienced Software Engineer 
to join a contract supporting USAID's Development Experience Clearinghouse 
(DEC).  The DEC is USAID's main repository of reports, studies, policy 
documents and other products of the Agency's numerous development projects. The 
records represent USAID's vast development experience, and are a vital element 
of the Agency's knowledge management program. USAID has ambitious plans to 
reaffirm its leading position in the development community. Expanding the DEC's 
holdings and making them more accessible and useful to the Agency's staff, its 
development partners, and the general public will be critical to this effort.

We are currently deploying a modern digital asset management tool; moving to an 
existing commercial search engine; importing over 100,000 public and private 
document records into the new system; and upgrading the DEC so it will afford 
new levels of access not only to USAID staff, but to the general public.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will be responsible for support, adaptation and integration of 
the Inmagic Presto application, which will support a large portion of DEC's 
mission-critical infrastructure.  The applicant must have extensive knowledge 
and experience in web-based, database-driven application development.  
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

*   Design, refine, and test applications using industry-standard 
techniques for developing, debugging, fixing and improving applications 
throughout their life-cycle

to maintain and administer multiple Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) 
Database environments. The Engineer will also coordinate with applications

Required Qualifications
*Current and active TS/SCI security clearance, required (candidates without

preferred.
*Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical 
field (or equivalent experience) and at least 9 years experience in a directly 
related position.
*Experience with the following technologies: Oracle 10g/11g, RMAN, PL/SQL,

RESPONSIBILITIES

accreditation packages to meet NASA and GSFC policies;
 *   Provide technical recommendations for information systems operations in 
the UNIX (SUN SOLARIS) environment. Implement modifications to increase system 
capacity;
 *   Analyze the results of performance and systems management software and 
recommend changes to improve processing and utilization;
 *   Maintain and develop system documentation, policies, and procedures that 
promote optimal use of computer resources;
 *   Function as an Alternate Computer Security Officer: identify and take 
action on vulnerabilities to the Library's systems, participate in IT security 
activities, assume primary responsibility for all IT Certification and 
Accreditation (CA) activities;
 *   Provide initial troubleshooting and support for desktops and network and 
wireless Connections;
 *   Participate in evaluation, selection, and installation of computer 
hardware and software packages;
 *   Evaluate and make recommendations on state-of-the-art technology 
improvements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


 *   BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant technical 
discipline (equivalent experience may be considered);
 *   3+ years experience in systems administration;
 *   Extensive knowledge of UNIX (SUN SOLARIS 9/10) operating systems;
 *   Extensive knowledge in Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Active Directory;
 *   Extensive knowledge of backup, web server, and document software (e.g., 
Veritas;
 *   Netbackup, Apache, Tomcat, Microsoft Office suite);
 *   Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
 *   Ability to manage diverse tasks and professionally interact with users and 
vendors and to work effectively and cooperatively on a team project;
 *   Must be able to work varied schedules to accommodate system maintenance or

Clearinghouse (DEC).   The cataloger will join a processing team providing 
cataloging, taxonomy, indexing and records quality control support to USAID's 
Knowledge Service Center and the online document repository. We are looking for 
someone who has experience with taxonomies and thesaurus construction, and 
their application to original online cataloging. This is an ideal position for 
a recent MLS graduate who is knowledgeable about taxonomy, thesauri, and keeps 
abreast of web-based tools. All candidates MUST be U.S. Citizens and have or be 
able to obtain Secret Clearance, in order to be considered
Responsibilities:
* Original cataloging of USAID publications, including publications 
produced under contract and by partner organizations;

LAC is seeking an Information Architect for a Digital KM Project working
with NASA's Knowledge Management Case Study Collection in Greenbelt, MD.
Responsibilities will include: Development, testing, installation, and
evaluation of open source institutional repository systems such as
dSpace, Fedora or ePrints. Other tasks include working with the
Electronic Systems Team Lead, the Metadata Librarian, and other staff
and collaborating on the development and implementation of test cases
and conducts usability testing.  In particular they will be involved
with the development of interfaces and digital access to the KM Case
Study Collection. This position will be required to produce related
documentation and user manuals as needed. 

 Required Qualifications

*  Proficient in one or more current programming and/or
scripting languages;

prestigious University located in Pasadena, California. This is either a
part-time or full-time position with the possibility of subsequent hire.
This position calls for a candidate with serials management experience
to assist with original cataloging, link resolution services and
database maintenance activities within the Metadata Services Group. The
candidate must have an expert knowledge of standard library cataloging
standards such as MARC, AACR2, OpenURL, and tools such as OCLC Connexion
and will coordinate the work of staff members, distributed in various

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:

 

LINK RESOLUTION MANAGEMENT AND TROUBLESHOOTING

the library collection. 
*   Create original local SFX Knowledge Base records as required. 
*   Edit local serials coverage thresholds as required after SFX
monthly Knowledge Base updates. 
*   Synchronize linking services between the ILS and SFX. 
*   Investigate access issues and resolve problems by using
licensing and payment records and publisher information to correctly
configure SFX link resolution services. 
*   Stay current of best practices in electronic resource management

DATABASE MAINTENANCE AND AUTHORITY CONTROL

*   Perform weekly heading report maintenance activities in
Innovative Millenium integrated library system. 
*   Monitor Library of Congress changes in subject headings and
apply global updates to bibliographic records. 
*   Create original authority records as required. 
*   Oversee special projects such as bulk ingest/edit of
bibliographic records for large serials packages.

CATALOGING

*   Perform rush cataloging 
*   Oversee copy cataloging and resolve complex copy cataloging
issues. 
*   Create original cataloging records for all media formats and
synchronize cataloging records with link resolver services as required. 
*   Investigate serials title changes and edit cataloging and link
resolver records. 
*   Be available as mentor and export on metadata to both internal
and external clients.

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

*   Compile and analyze electronic statistics form a variety of
sources. 
*   Administer internal record keeping systems for tracking
licensing information. 
*   Participate in various department meetings and activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

*   BA/BS with 2-5 years of relevant work experience mandatory. MLS
from an ALA accredited institution or international equivalent
preferred.

Overview of Position

Librarian). The Metadata Librarian is responsible for collecting,

Primary Responsibilities

 

*   Perform original and copy cataloging for a wide range of
formats, including serials, non-print materials, and e-resources, using
traditional cataloging principles and practices to input records into
OCLC and the local ILS, SirsiDynix Unicorn 
*   Stay abreast of new developments relevant to metadata,
cataloging, and digitization 
*   Serve as a resource person concerning OCLC, cataloging,
classification, database maintenance, record loading, and workflow
issues 
*   Archive digital images, video files, audio files, multimedia
assets and assets in other formats

*   Plan and coordinate digitization projects

The Position

 

LAC is seeking a contract Graphic Designer to redesign the look and feel
of the web site of our client, Marin County Free Library (MCFL). MCFL is
a large public library that serves unincorporated areas of Marin County,
as well as participating cities within the County. The library system
has 11 branches and provides our patrons with library materials (books,
DVDs, CDs, etc.) and credible answers to questions. 

 

The current web site, http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/LB/main/index.cfm
http://www.co.marin.ca.us/depts/LB/main/index.cfm , is hosted on the
County's server and utilizes a look and feel determined by County
designers. Our client at MCFL has decided that this arrangement does not
adequately serve their patrons, nor does it properly brand their
organization. The Graphic Designer will play a key role in their larger
project that will completely overhaul the existing site and move us into
a new hosting environment that utilizes a Content Management System
(CMS).

 

 

Responsibilities

 

The Graphic Designer will only be responsible for developing the look
and feel of the site. Upon completion of the design process, the
designer will deliver a completed design in layered Photoshop files that
their Developer will then use for production of the site. No programming
will be required. This is not a Web development contract. Our client at
MCFL does, however, request that the Graphic Designer be available to
answer occasional questions during the development process.

 

 

Qualifications 

 

The individual we engage should meet the following requirements:

*   Possess formal education in the area of graphic design,
including upper division coursework in the subject from an accredited
institution. A bachelors degree in Graphic Design is highly preferred. 
*   A minimum of three years of experience designing web sites 
*   Experience working within the framework of a formal creative
process

o   XML

o   CSS

o   Other related technologies

*Deep understanding of Linux and Windows server environments. 

*Familiarity with AJAX concepts and technologies. 

*Familiarity with Semantic Web concepts and technologies.

*2 recent years of experience working with library standards such as 
the following:

o   OpenURL

o   AACR2

o   LCC

o   MARC

*Ideal candidate will have 2 recent years of experience developing 
and/or supporting library solutions for the following:

 Library Associates seeks candidates for immediate consideration for a
Library Technician/Serials position  in an academic law library in
Malibu, California. This can be either a full-time or part-time position
and would be ideal for a student in library school. This is a temporary
position with the possibility of subsequent hire. 

 Responsibilities

*   Maintain detailed records of serials using automated library
system; 
*   Verify accuracy of items received; 
*   Contact publishers or vendors concerning problems; 
*   Carry on continuous serials control project; 
*   Oversee distribution of serials to appropriate place in the
library; 
*   Train and supervise student assistants in filing and other
duties; 
*   Create and revise continuation cards; 
*   Prepare materials for binding - keeping necessary records; 
*   Maintain statistics on volume count and check-in transactions; 
*   Prepare written procedures and records to be used in transfer to
an automated system; 
*   Respond to requests from student and faculty concerning the

and processing information material. This person also interacts with
associates in any of the U.S. offices, Finance and Accounting, other
groups within the Research Library, and numerous vendors and suppliers.

*   Pre-order searching, vendor selection, order placement,
invoice processing, reviewing incoming shipments for accuracy and
completeness, resolving problems with delivery, access and payments,
