Hi Mark,

You might also consider including homebrew in the luggage :)

With budgets and all, I won't be able to attend.

However, I'm sure I'm not the only Systems Librarian who homebrews.

Do you like really good beer and/or would you possibly be willing to
bring some in your luggage to Bloomington?

A small group of Code4libbers is self-organizing a Craft Brew Drinkup
at Code4lib. The general idea is that people bring beer that they love
or at least think other people should try. We'll find a time to sit
and taste everyone's selections. You don't have to bring beer to
attend or participate, but it certainly helps to ensure that we have
enough to go around. If you're a homebrewer, you're welcome to bring
your own if you think it will pass our muster.

I have created a signup sheet on the wiki - please post there with
your name, location, ideas of what you might bring, and potential
requests for others.

Wow, I'd hate to do a border crossing with exploded bottles.
I've driven from PA to FL with cases in picnic coolers.

Freeze some ice packs. I use the flexible plastic types.

Cool brew -- then include several ice packs in the center of the cooler.

-- I have never tried, but could work...

Fill empties 1/2 way with water, leave uncapped (allow for expansion of
H2O), freeze.
Once frozen -- use your capping tool to cap the bottles, include in the mix.

Be sure to label frozen water as such -- avoid confusion :)

I usually pack 22 ounce bottles of beer in Ziploc freezer bags. Two
bottles per bag fit nicely; three can be a little tight but still
works. Then I just pile my clothes on and around the bags of bottles.

When I ported four 750mL bottles of Dogfish to Chicago via Amtrak, I
wrapped the bottles in plastic bags to contain any possible explosions
and then used a combination of bubble wrap and various items of winter
outerwear to protect the bottles. Worked like a charm.

Authentic Mexican tequila does explode, though. It's a feature.

Another option are these beer diapers: http://goo.gl/AMCPx. I've used them on
several trips and they work like a charm. I'm bringing several, so will likely
have a couple left over for folks who find a Bloomington beer that they want to
take back.

Perhaps those two facts are related...

I am driving, so I can take any extra beer home with me!

However, for airplanes, the plastic zip-lock bags and put in the
middle of the suitcase wrapped with clothing has worked for me in the
past, but I never had one break, so I am not sure what would happen if
I did. The diapers do sound like a good idea though.
