THATCamp Canberra 2014

As part of Trove's 5th birthday celebrations in November, we'll be
hosting THATCamp Canberra, a digital humanities unconference. It's
free, fun, and open to anyone interested in exploring the intersection
of technology and the humanities.

WHEN: 31 October -- 2 November 2014
WHERE: National Library of Australia, Canberra
DETAILS REGISTRATION: http://canberra2014.thatcamp.org/
COST: Free!

THATCamps (The Humanities And Technology) explore the possibilities
and problems raised by the application of technology to the
humanities. They're unconferences, which means no prepared talks or
Powerpoint -- the program is developed on the spot based on the
interests of participants. Do you want to know more about new tools or
methods for digital research? Visualisation? Big data? APIs?
Digitisation? THATCamps are a great place to start.

THATCamp Canberra 2014 is being hosted by Trove at the National
Library of Australia. The Trove team is always on the lookout for
innovative research using our data. We know there's some exciting
projects out there, but we want more! We also want to help people make
use of our API to build tools and interfaces, or simply streamline
their research. Trove and THATCamp seem like a perfect match.

Don't be intimidated -- everyone from complete newbies to hardened
coders will be welcome at THATCamp Canberra. And to help you find your
feet we'll be starting off with a series of workshops to introduce
some of the tools, methods, technologies and standards used in the
digital humanities.

Register now -- places are limited!

[CODE4LIB] THATCamp Digital Knowledge following Code4Lib 2014

2014-03-19 Thread Markus Wust
If, after four days of Code4LIB, you are not yet conferenced-out and are
staying in Raleigh for an additional day, why not attend THATCamp Digital
Knowledge at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on March 28 from 10 to 5 and
also help us celebrate Arduino Day? Attendance is free, you just have to
register (see the announcement below).

++

THATCamp is an opportunity for faculty, grad students, university staff and
members of the public to learn and play at the intersections of technology,
humanities, social sciences, arts, and libraries. Participants are welcomed
to propose sessions that relate to digital scholarship and pedagogy or any
other topic they'd like to explore with fellow attendees. Sessions
typically enable participants to develop new skill sets, think through
ideas in a cooperative setting, and workshop current and future projects.
(See the instructions on what sorts of sessions you might propose in
advance or on the spot.)

This year, THATCamp also invites attendees to use the Hunt Library's
high-tech spaces including the Teaching and Visualization Lab, the Game
Lab, and the Creativity Studio. Staff will be on hand to assist with
running and configuring these spaces. In addition to sessions that
participants propose in advance or on the spot, THATCamp will offer
hands-on workshops led by librarians and faculty on the Arduino
microprocessor, as part of NC State's parallel celebration of the worldwide
Arduino Day 2014. Other sessions will focus on topics and technologies
ranging from Google Glass to data visualization and GIS to multiplayer
interactive fiction.

Please note: participation is limited to 75 people. To attend, please
register by March 26. To learn more, visit our website,
dk2014.thatcamp.org/and follow us on Twitter at @THATCampRTP.

2011-03-04 Thread Eric Lease Morgan
The following announcement describes a THATCamp event taking place at the end
of April in East Lansing (Michigan). --ELM

Announcing Great Lakes THATCamp 2011

Held on the campus of Michigan State University on April 30th and May 1st,
Great Lakes THATCamp (The Humanities And Technology Camp) is a user-generated
unconference on digital humanities originally inspired by the Center for
History and New Media (CHNM) at George Mason University.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone interested in studying, supporting, teaching, researching, creating or
otherwise shaping digital humanities, humanistic social sciences, information
sciences, new media, and any other allied fields. You can be an academic, a
librarian, an archivist, a developer, a writer, a student (grad or undergrad),
a curator, a designer, an educator, a public historian, an archaeologist, an
independent scholar, or any combination thereof (as most of us are). You can be
an expert or a newbie; as long as you have something to talk about and things
you want to learn regarding the intersection and integration of the humanities
and technology, this is the place to be. The list of who should attend is as
broad as the field of digital humanities itself.

So, No Suits, No Papers... What Do You do?

Show, tell, collaborate, share, and walk away inspired. Sessions at Great Lakes
THATCamp will range from software demos to training sessions to discussions of
research findings to half-baked rants. The only real thing we don't want to see
is people standing up and reading a full blown paper, this isn't your typical
academic conference – we're not here to read or be read to.

Submitting a Proposal

Submitting a proposal to Great Lakes THATCamp is easy. Just fill out the
Application form on the website (http://greatlakesthatcamp.org). No formal
(lengthy) proposal is required - just a brief description of what you would
like to talk about. Unfortunately, we can only accept a max of 100 people, so
we're going to have to do some vetting. Deadline for submitting is March 11th,
2010.

How Much Does Great Lakes THATCamp Cost?

THATCamp isn't your average academic conference, so you aren't going to have to
pay an expensive conference registration fee. All we ask is that all attendees
pay $25 to cover meals (attendees will be provided breakfast lunch during the
event), as well as a t-shirt to commemorate the event.

For more information on Great Lakes THATCamp, go to
http://greatlakesthatcamp.org. Any questions can be sent directly to Ethan
Watrall (watr...@msu.edu)

2010-12-09 Thread Susan Wells Parham
THATCamp Southeast (http://southeast2011.thatcamp.org/) is a free
“unconference” for anyone working at the intersection of the humanities and
technology. It will be held at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, on
March 4-6, 2011.

We’re currently accepting applications from students, faculty, librarians,
technologists, museum professionals, archivists, and anyone else who is
interested in the digital (and the) humanities. We’d appreciate it if you’d
pass this message on, and post the attached flyer if you can.

Because THATCamp is an “unconference,” our participants will determine the
ground we cover. Depending on your interests, we may hold sessions on issues
in digital scholarship, pedagogy, curation, software demos, or training
sessions. In other words, you won’t present formal talks, papers, or panels.
Instead, you’ll share your ideas for potential THATCamp sessions prior to
the Camp. At the start of the event, we’ll collectively agree on which
conversations will take place.

Our event also includes a one-day “BootCamp”: a series of hands-on workshops
to help get digital novices up to speed. So don’t be intimidated if you’re
new to digital humanities!

The brief application is available at
http://southeast2011.thatcamp.org/apply-to-attend. The deadline is January
9, 2011.

Please email thatcamp.southe...@gmail.com with any questions, and don’t
forget to follow us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/THATCamp_SE). We look
forward to hearing from you!
