Library Solutions Analyst (Information Analyst II)
 
TITLE:  Information Analyst II
FUNCTIONAL JOB TITLE:  Library Solutions Analyst
SUPERVISOR:  Director, Information Discovery Team
TIME STATUS:  Full-time
 
POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Library Solutions Analyst is responsible for guiding the RCL in the 
successful adoption of sustainable information technology solutions to improve 
organizational effectiveness.  Based in the Information Discovery Team, the 
Library Solutions Analyst will use a project management framework to design and 
implement specific technical/computer related aspects of solutions to improve 
staff workflows, including but not limited to digital document management and 
tools to support RCL’s teaching and learning activities and online scholarly 
resources (LibGuides, LibCal, AIMS, Omeka, Islandora, etc.). This staff member 
works closely with the stakeholders to ensure cost effective technology 
solutions meet the needs of staff, and that solutions are aligned with RCL 
strategic priorities.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
 
20% - Platform Support
Provides support for library solutions by acting as functional expert for 
library platforms
Liaises with vendors to gather information, communicate requirements and 
changes, and benchmark as appropriate
Identifies, tracks, and resolves project risks
Analyzes, assesses, and improves library platforms and workflows
Manages communication with project teams, vendors, and key stakeholders
 
20% - Requirements Gathering
Independently gathers requirements for new IT projects, programs, or services
Liaises with stakeholders to analyze needs for new and enhanced functionality
Develops use cases to drive technology initiatives
Translates business and technical information into clear, actionable 
requirements
 
20% - Systems Analysis
Facilitates analysis, assessment, and design of IT projects and platforms with 
a high degree of independence
Identifies and resolves issues across workflows and platforms to increase 
performance
Consults with RCL units to collaboratively develop best practices for 
technology use and platform workflows
Produces reports and recommendations on current and future solutions
 
15% - Staff Training and Development
Leads training initiatives when necessary to improve organizational 
effectiveness
Develops documentation, self-service, and online training modules
Works closely with Library IT Services to support solutions for teaching and 
learning
 
15% - Technology Solution Design
Assists in planning, design, and implementation of technology solutions
Develops strategies, best practices, and training documentation for staff use
Advises leadership and major stakeholders on policies and procedures in 
development and implementation of technology solutions
 
10% - Professional Development and Service
Maintains high-level of knowledge of technology solutions in an academic library
Participates in RCL committees and meetings required by supervisor
Serves on library and university committees, as assigned
Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS
 
Required:  Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or related field; 
one to two years of IT experience.  Experience designing solutions that improve 
workflow efficiency and organizational effectiveness. Must have excellent 
organizational skills and work well in a team environment. The candidate must 
be an excellent problem solver, have a willingness to work flexible hours and 
be committed to excellent customer service. Strong verbal, presentation and 
written communication skills are required
 
Preferred:  Master’s degree in Information Technology or related field.  
Experience working with academic library staff on technology solutions that 
support the teaching, learning, and research activities of students and 
scholars.
