was for a code4lib journal. Here's a proposal for what such a journal
might look like; comments, article submissions, and volunteers are all
welcome.

A few thoughts, followed by a summary of the discussion so far.
Ed Corrado noted some problems with peer review in an earlier message,
and I think those problems outweigh the gains of peer review -- which
ultimately amount to a little more respectability, mainly for those
seeking tenure. In that
I really like Roy's idea of establishing "nodes of activity around
various ideas" coming out of this discussion. In an attempt to create a
"node" for formal publication, I've put together the first draft of a
formal statement of purpose, format, and editorial policies for a
code4lib journal. It's

the code4lib journal. Here's how it's going to work:
- The names that will appear on the ballot are listed on the code4lib
site at http://www.code4lib.org/node/86 . If you want to add a name to
the ballot, you can do so by goi
Voting for the Code4Lib journal name is now open. Go to
http://www.code4lib.org/node/89 and follow the instructions. Note that you
will need to login to the code4lib.org site to be able to vote. If you don't

Here's the latest on the code4lib journal:

I've been talking to Simon Fraser University about hosting the journal and
looking into using Open Journal Systems to host
or existing OJS users who want to upgrade), you
might consider developing those features as part of the core package. 2.2 is
the next major release if anyone feels like jumping in with both feet.
